Dear Coinbase Wallet,
I know you could, and most probably would give hundred different reasons behind the stupid recovery option, but I won’t hear it. It’s so stupid that it hurts my brain to even think this is a good wallet/account recovery option.
For those who don’t know, if you change your phone or re-install the Coinbase Wallet app, you cannot just log in to your old account.
No no no… For some reason, you need some 12-word recovery phrase to access the wallet which was shown to you when you registered. Another option is to back up the seed or whatever it’s called on your phone.
Doesn’t anyone in Coinbase realize how stupid this is? I mean, who remembers 12 random words instead of a password?
In the age of Face ID and fingerprint unlock when people are trying to get past the password-memorizing phase, Coinbase wants us to remember 12 random words in a random fixed order.
Someone has to realize how stupid this recovery system is. This is so stupid that it hurts my brain when I try to comprehend how idiotic the recovery method is.
Honestly, when I signed up for the first time, I don’t even remember seeing some random 12 words in a specific order. As for the phone backup, apps usually ask for it when you first launch the app.
You’d think, if these random words or backups are the only things to regain access to the wallet, the app would remind you every now and then to make sure the users have them written or stored somewhere, right? No, it didn’t.
As a result, when I was having problems with the app yesterday and reinstalled the wallet, I lost access to all my NFTs.
I am not a hardcore NFT-enthusiasts, but it still feels bad to lose something you’ve put effort into.
Now, for Coinbase’s stupid and primitive recovery system, I do not have access to the NFT collection I owned. This is stupid beyond imagination.
Coinbase Wallet and their peers should really upgrade from this barbaric password/phrase memorizing practice.
@eanicus I don’t know if you’re working on that Coinbase Wallet recovery case or not, but if you are, feel free to add me to the list. On Coinbase Wallet, I’m @Rifat5670 & you can contact me via Twitter.
P.S: @CoinbaseWallet, that’s the stupidest recovery system & you guys suck.— Rifat Ahmed (@Rifat5670) October 26, 2022
